12/08/08 Asetek first to watercool HD4870X2
Asetek today announced that they have nailed their 4870X2 watercooling solution. As part of their LCLC liquid cooling products, they claim to be the first to have cooled the 4870X2 with a mainstream waterblock that will soon be available. While we suspect many readers will be waiting for EK, XSPC and Dangerden's full cover waterblocks, its nice to see Asetek are on the ball with pictures on the date of the NDA expiry for the new high end GPU from ATI. "Asetek’s industry-leading, LCLC liquid cooling solution is now available for AMD’s much anticipated multi-GPU cards, the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 family of graphics cards (codenamed R700). The unique, liquid cooling approach is exactly what OEMs need to extract the highest performance from the graphics card and produce top-of-the-line gaming and entertainment products." Read more here
The card itself appears to have gone down a storm. Gone are many of the stability and performance issues that plagued the 3870X2 and instead ATI have ripped the top performance crown from Nvidia with both hands and have a firm lead over the GTX280. At last we have competition across the board. It's only taken...well like forever! Welcome back to the high end ATI... Read more about the HD4870X2 here
