D-Tek Fuzion Pro Mount Review

Stock plate and Pro Mount

However, there are two issues with the block's mounting mechanism that have proven difficult to work with. Firstly the mounting plate and springs allow for uneven contact to the IHS. It's difficult to guage how tight each spring is and a fair amount of tweaking is required to make sure the block is sitting flat on the CPU.

Secondly, simply having springs mounted on screws coming through the motherboard socket mount holes means than you invariably end up with a slightly warped motherboard which in turn can add to the above problem of mounting the block squarely on the CPU, not to mention a rather large and expensive paperweight if you tighten the screws up to much!

D-Tek have kindly addressed these problems and introduced not one, but two new mechanisms for mounting the Fuzion. This review focuses on the Pro Mount which is a back plate-assisted hold down which, as you can see below, is mounted into the block itself.

A slightly more simplistic design is the new Quick-Mount Bracket which uses the familiar push pin clips featured on Socket 775 air coolers but is still mounted within the block. This mount has the advantage of not having to remove the motherboard to install it and is also quick to fit.

However if you're replacing an existing Fuzion block then you'll have to remove the motherboard anyway to uninstall the screw mounts. Also this solution doesn't prevent the motherboard warping but one presumes that it would apply similar pressure to that of a standard air cooler. Still it's another option which is more effective than the reference mounting plate.
